ISTAT’s Commitment to Sustainability

Sustainability will remain at the forefront of all ISTAT activities and discussions with the adoption of sustainable practices promoted and encouraged as the aviation industry works toward a low carbon future.

At ISTAT EMEA, ISTAT worked closely with venues and vendors to adopt sustainable practices. Here are some of the efforts made:

What ISTAT did:

No pads, pens, candies, etc. placed in each meeting room in an effort to reduce waste and plastic use
No printed attendee lists. Delegates are encoraged to use the ISTAT mobile app or QR codes to access information for the conference.
Provide visible and accessible reduction, reuse, recycling and composting services for paper, metal, plastic, glass and compost
Nonperishable food items will be donated to St. John’s church
No use of plastic cups, straws or stirrers on property. All tea bags are made with recyclable packaging
No bottled water (except in designated areas). Water bubblers with recyclable paper cones will be available.
When available, conference materials are locally sourced to reduce emissions for transit/shipping and packaging materials
Compostable items are used for catering
Hired busses for transportation are state of the art vehicles which assist in reducing emissions, and comply with the latest environmental policies and legislation.
Busses will be turned off when not in sure to save on carbon footprint; no idling

Recycling: The EICC endeavours to recycle 100% of its waste. In collaboration with our waste management partners, our skips for example are taken off site and all of the waste segregated with the aim to recycle 100% of all the items. We have recycling stations positioned throughout the EICC which can be used by the delegates on site.

Food Waste: All food waste is taken off site and subsequently processed to produce fertiliser and energy

Reception at Edinburgh Castle
- Gold award winner of the Green Tourism scheme, the leading sustainable tourism certification scheme in the UK. The scheme assesses members against a rigorous set of criteria. The range of areas examined includes, waste management, energy use, procurement, biodiversity.
- Dedicated green team on site, has installed new energy efficient heating boilers unseen to visitors but equally important, uses eco-friendly cleaning products across its venue and shows great support and promotion of local suppliers and products in the shop, café and event catering services.

EICC has been accredited to ISO 14001 – The Environmental Management System

2BUK work with local industry partners to support green food/drink and sustainable procurement to avoid unnecessary packing/shipping materials and mileage. In our working environment, we follow the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle policy: eliminating paper sources, buying reusable/compostable stationery, reducing printing and shrinking our energy usage
